Bringing Back the SpaceX Falcon 1E
by Tommy on 27/06/2012This is another design I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’ll need a completely redesigned tank, maybe a little wider to accommodate a crew member or two, certainly built in booster attachments, a built in hydrogen upper stage and OMS system with fuel settling thrusters.
Add two GEM 40s for starters and you should be able to make orbit with a little bit to spare.
Or just fly the booster with a conventional hydrogen upper stage and recover it in Florida from Brownsville, Texas. Of just fly the Falcon 1E as it was originally designed. That works for me.
Update : A throttleable RL-10 would work well for an upper stage engine.
